Elucid received Food and Drug Administration clearance for its Plaque-IQ software in 2024. The device turns coronary CT angiography images into 3D models that quantify and classify plaque morphology. By January 2026, more than 70% of covered Americans had plans that paid for coronary plaque analysis, according to the company.
Building on the progress, Elucid is pursuing an indication for CT fractional flow reserve, or FFR-CT, with a 510(k) submission currently under FDA review. The BioIntegrated FFR-CT product integrates anatomy, plaque biology and physiology to find coronary blockages and evaluate the extent of ischemia noninvasively. The product is derived from Elucid’s plaque algorithm.
Elucid, which will compete with companies including Heartflow, plans to use Plaque-IQ and FFR-CT to offer a comprehensive clinical decision platform. The company aims to help physicians stratify at-risk patients and personalize treatment strategies for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.
“Analogous to oncology’s shift from population-based, one-size treatment, Elucid is applying AI to integrate anatomy, biology and physiology to bring personalized treatment to coronary artery disease management,” Elucid CEO Kelly Huang said in a statement.
New and existing investors, including IAG Capital Partners and Patient Square Capital’s Elevage Medical Technologies, backed Elucid’s latest funding round. The financing, which brings Elucid’s fundraising total up to about $185 million, will support the commercial expansion of Elucid’s clinical decision platform.
Elucid framed the participation of a large medtech company in the latest financing round as evidence of growing industry confidence in its approach to noninvasive cardiovascular diagnostics. Payers including Aetna, Humana, Cigna and UnitedHealthcare are covering plaque analysis and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services is reimbursing the approach.
