Rush University to Host Colonoscopy Study Using Apple Vision Pro –

    What You Should Know:

    – Cosmo Pharmaceuticals has announced it will begin the first-ever human usability study of a new software application that integrates Medtronic’s GI Genius™ AI module with Apple Vision Pro.

    – The study, set to launch in July 2025 at Rush University Medical Center, will evaluate the use of spatial computing to deliver real-time, AI-powered insights to physicians during live colonoscopy procedures.

This initiative aims to create a more intuitive and powerful workflow for gastroenterologists. The software application, designed by Cosmo, will allow physicians wearing the Apple Vision Pro headset to see critical data and AI-generated highlights from the GI Genius™ module overlaid within their real-world view. This seamless integration means vital information can be accessed heads-up, without the need to look away from the patient or the primary endoscopy screen.

The GI Genius™ module, distributed exclusively by Medtronic, is already a powerful tool in the fight against colorectal cancer. It uses artificial intelligence to help physicians identify potentially cancerous polyps, increasing the adenoma detection rate (ADR) by as much as 14.4%. By connecting this proven AI with the immersive, high-resolution display of Apple Vision Pro, Cosmo hopes to unlock a new level of clinical efficiency and focus.

“By integrating the GI Genius™ module with Apple Vision Pro, we will be delivering an entirely new experience – intelligent, and intuitive,” said Giovanni Di Napoli, CEO of Cosmo. “This is what the future of medicine looks like: real-time AI, embedded naturally into the physician’s workflow by blending digital content with the physical world.”

The landmark usability study will be conducted on patients undergoing routine colonoscopies at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. It will be led by Dr. Irving Waxman, a renowned figure in the field who serves as the James R. Lowenstine Professor and Chief of the Division of Digestive Diseases & Nutrition at Rush.

“What Cosmo has built by connecting the GI Genius™ module with Apple Vision Pro is extraordinary. It has the potential to revolutionize how we practice – by giving us AI-powered insights exactly when and where we need them,” said Dr. Waxman. “This is not just an incremental improvement – it’s a complete reimagining of procedural medicine, and I’m proud that Rush is leading the way.”

    Future Plans

The results of this study will be a critical component of Cosmo’s planned submission to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which is expected to follow shortly after the study’s conclusion.
