Resmed CEO Mick Farrell will become the next chair of AdvaMed’s board of directors. Farrell will serve a two-year term starting in January.
The chair of the medtech lobbying group is responsible for leading policy and technology initiatives across the industry. In Thursday’s announcement, Farrell said his priorities are around patient-first innovation, digital transformation and expanding global access to medtech.
“That means supporting policies that enable care to be delivered everywhere, from hospitals to homes, and personalizing that care for every individual,” Farrell said.
Farrell has been CEO of Resmed since 2013. The company makes sleep apnea machines and other sleep and respiratory products.
Farrell has served on AdvaMed’s board of directors since 2015. He currently leads the international board committee and recently traveled to Japan with an AdvaMed delegation.
GE HealthCare CEO Peter Arduini currently is chair of the board, leading efforts around imaging, digital health and artificial intelligence. During Arduini’s tenure, AdvaMed formed its Imaging and Digital Health Tech divisions and helped the industry move closer to Medicare coverage of Food and Drug Administration-authorized breakthrough devices. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services also finalized regulations expanding access to diagnostic radiopharmaceuticals during this time.
Farrell is expected to share more details on his priorities next year. He takes leadership of the board during a time when more medtech companies are talking about generative AI, tariffs are still front of mind, and as legislators introduce policy to broaden Medicare coverage of breakthrough devices.
