We’re big fans of Loop earplugs here at TechRadar, myself especially, as they’ve been a game-changer for my sensitive little ears.
Loop offers a satisfyingly wide range of noise-reducing options to suit different situations, from low-level noise dampening when you want to lower the volume while still maintaining conversations, to reducing ambient noise to help you get a good night’s sleep.
There’s a tempting discount in the UK, too, as we can get the Loop Switch 2 earplugs at Amazon UK for £43.95 (was £54.95), which is a satisfyingly low price considering their fantastic performance.
Whether you’re new to Loop or already smitten with the ones you’ve got right now, I’ve summarised each pair based on my personal experience to help you decide which pair to purchase next.
Loop Engage 2
- Best for filtering out background noise while socializing
- Up to 16 dB of noise reduction
The Engage 2 earplugs were the first I tried from Loop, and I became smitten with them very quickly.
Any amount of noise reduction scuppers me slightly due to an audio processing disorder, but as these earplugs are so efficient at filtering out background noise, it makes it much easier to follow a conversation.
These earplugs will be a real asset if you find background noise distracting while chatting with friends or listening to lectures.
If you’d like the option to reduce ambient sounds further, then you should look to the Loop Engage 2 Plus, which have removable Mute inserts that decrease noise by an extra 9 dB.
Loop Experience 2
- Best for live shows and music festivals
- 17dB noise reduction
The Loop Experience 2 earplugs are a great shout, whether you love going to live shows or enjoy a bass-pumping club night.
I’m unable to attend these types of events at present, so I can’t comment on their performance in this regard. However, I’ve heard numerous colleagues singing their praises, so I’m confident they’ll come in very handy for anyone who wants to reduce the impact of loud volumes without spoiling the vibe.
If you’d like a little more protection, then you might want to check out the Loop Experience 2 Plus, which have removable Mute inserts that reduce sound by a further 3 dB.
Loop Quiet 2
- Best for deep focus and travelling
- 24dB noise reduction
The Quiet 2 earplugs are a great choice if you want to minimize distractions while working or studying, or for a bit more peace and quiet on your commute.
They’re a pleasingly versatile pair of earplugs, as their soft and flexible design makes them suitable for wearing when you’re lounging around, too.
Pro tip: wear a pair of Quiet 2 earplugs under your noise-cancelling headphones to maximize ambient sound reduction while enjoying your favorite tunes.
Loop Switch 2
- Best for adaptability
- 20 dB, 23 dB, or 26dB noise reduction, depending on mode
I adore my Loop Switch 2 earplugs. I’ve written previously about how much of a game-changer they’ve been for me, as they offer a super quick way to switch between noise reduction modes throughout the day.
They’re the ideal option if you’re struggling to choose between the Engage 2, Experience 2, or Quiet 2, or even just two of them, as buying the Switch 2s is more cost-effective than buying two separate pairs.
It’s pleasingly simple to switch between the three modes, as all you need to do is turn the outer ring of the earplugs.
Loop Dream
- Best for a comfy solution to a quieter night’s sleep
- 27dB noise reduction
Several months into using my lovely lilac pair, I still consider the Loop Dreams to be the comfiest earplugs for side sleepers. This is all thanks to how small and soft they are, and how great they fit, with four sizes of foam-silicone ear and silicone double tips to choose between
Curiously, these floriously comfy sleep earbuds haven’t had the Black Friday treatment from Amazon, but fear not, as you can get the Dream earbuds at Loop for $39.96 (was $49.95) directly from Loop.
