Across the medtech landscape, the race is on among dozens of companies looking to secure a place in the high-growth business of surgical robotics. New developers that have been working for years to bring their efforts to market are now ready to launch platforms in the U.S. — or are close to it.

CMR Surgical called it a “pivotal moment” recently when it announced the hiring of a top executive to lead the U.S. launch of its soft tissue robot. Another soft tissue robot manufacturer, Moon Surgical, expanded its leadership team this summer with three new hires to support the rollout of its system.

Other companies are targeting untapped niches in robotics. In July, Olympus revealed plans to co-found a new company with Revival Healthcare Capital to create a robotic system focused on gastrointestinal treatments. The month before, ForSight Robotics said it is developing the first robotic surgery platform for cataracts and other eye diseases.

Medtronic and Johnson & Johnson, too, are making progress on their surgical robots: Medtronic is awaiting Food and Drug Administration authorization for a urology indication for its Hugo soft tissue robot, and J&J plans to submit a de novo application for its Ottava soft tissue robot in the first quarter of 2026.

MedTech Dive is covering all the top developments in the fast-moving field of surgical robotics. Read on for a roundup of our coverage:
