BD said Monday that Lenovo executive Arthur Hu is joining the company as chief information and digital officer, effective Sept. 30.
Hu is joining BD from Lenovo, a technology company where he has held various positions since 2009, according to his LinkedIn profile. Before joining Lenovo, Hu worked at McKinsey & Company for more than a decade.
In a statement, BD CEO Tom Polen named Hu’s “depth of technology-sector experience” as a driver of the appointment. Hu’s experience will give BD “an important advantage as technology becomes increasingly central to how healthcare is delivered and how leading medtech companies operate,” Polen said.
Polen is tasking Hu with helping to build “a faster, more productive and more connected BD.” Embedding artificial intelligence into the company’s work is part of Hu’s brief. The goal is to translate technology into innovation and stronger business outcomes, the CEO added.
Last month, Polen discussed BD’s implementation of AI on an earnings call. The company has “begun investing in the deployment of a standardized digital platform designed to run AI across BD’s end-to-end supply chain,” Polen said. The CEO predicted the platform could improve BD’s productivity and service. In addition, sales reps are using AI to prepare for account visits and reveal “where to hunt,” Polen said.
Hu will replace Denise Russell Fleming, who will retire from BD at the end of the year.
