Epitel Closes M to Commercialize REMI Remote EEG Platform

    What You Should Know

    • Salt Lake City-based digital health innovator Epitel, Inc. closed a $26M Series B funding round co-led by Catalyst Health Ventures and Genoa Ventures.
    • The Series B financing supports the nationwide commercial footprint expansion of Epitel’s REMI® Remote EEG Monitoring System and REMI Vigilenz™ AI For Event Detection.
    • Out of 9.2 million Americans experiencing seizures annually, 40% lack basic EEG access—largely because only 27% of U.S. hospitals possess native EEG diagnostic capacity.
    • Traditional inpatient or ambulatory EEG is constrained to 72-hour monitoring periods, whereas REMI’s wireless wearable sensors capture continuous brain activity at home over multiple weeks.
    • Backed by five FDA 510(k) clearances, REMI is cleared for neurological monitoring in pediatric patients as young as one year old, with AI event detection cleared for patients aged six and older.

Bypassing Hospital EEG Capacity Deficits: Epitel Scales Wearable Seizure Monitoring Across Weeks

Epitel has secured $26M in Series B financing to scale its wireless, remote electroencephalography (EEG) platform, targeting the diagnostic limitations and access gaps of traditional inpatient brain monitoring. Co-led by Catalyst Health Ventures and Genoa Ventures, the capital will expand commercial operations and field sales for Epitel’s FDA-cleared REMI® Remote EEG Monitoring System across ambulatory clinics and health systems nationwide.

In the U.S., an estimated 9.2 million people experience seizures each year, yet roughly 40% lack access to routine EEG testing—largely because only 27% of acute care hospitals maintain dedicated EEG diagnostic capacity. Furthermore, because seizure activity can occur weeks apart without visible clinical signs, standard 72-hour tethered hospital recordings frequently miss critical events, delaying definitive diagnoses by months or years.

Epitel’s REMI platform addresses these limitations by replacing wired head caps with lightweight, wearable sensors that record continuous EEG data at home over several weeks. The system incorporates REMI Vigilenz™ AI, an automated event-detection tool that reviews multi-week recordings to flag potential seizure activity for physician evaluation. The platform holds five FDA 510(k) clearances, covering neurological monitoring in pediatric patients as young as 1 year old and AI-assisted event detection for patients aged 6 and older.

By shifting brain monitoring from brief, inpatient snapshots to extended ambulatory datasets, the platform helps neurology practices increase diagnostic yields without adding physical bed capacity or overburdening clinical staff with raw data review.

“Millions of Americans with suspected seizures still face significant barriers to diagnosis because access to EEG remains limited, particularly outside major medical centers,” said Steve Pacelli, President and CEO of Epitel. “We built the REMI System to help close that gap by bringing longer-term neurological monitoring closer to patients and helping clinicians efficiently review the data needed to make a diagnosis.”
