Former Recor Medical CEO Lara Barghout has been named president of Medtronic’s Interventional Cardiology Therapies operating unit.
The ICT business includes Medtronic’s structural heart, coronary and hypertension management product lines.
“Lara brings proven leadership in the cardiovascular space and a global, future-ready mindset to the recently integrated ICT team,” Medtronic said in an emailed statement. “Under her leadership, we will continue to strengthen our ability to serve the interventional cardiology customer, elevate breakthrough innovation, and accelerate our ability to digitally transform the cath lab.”
Barghout was CEO of Recor when its Paradise device became the first renal denervation system approved by the Food and Drug Administration to treat uncontrolled high blood pressure. Recor won the approval just weeks before Medtronic got the agency’s nod for its competing Symplicity Spyral device, following a divided advisory panel vote.
Barghout, who joined Recor as president and CEO in January 2023, left the Otsuka Medical Devices subsidiary in February, according to her LinkedIn profile. Before her time at Recor, Barghout was senior vice president and head of advanced therapies at Siemens Healthineers and an executive at Terumo Cardiovascular.
Barghout’s appointment comes after Medtronic reorganized its cardiovascular portfolio into four divisions: Electrophysiology Therapies, CardioVascular Surgery and Peripheral Vascular Health, in addition to ICT.
The appointment follows the departure of Jason Fontana, vice president and general manager of renal denervation at Medtronic, who recently announced he was stepping down on LinkedIn.
Jason Weidman, former senior vice president and president of coronary and renal denervation, left Medtronic in the spring to become the CEO of Teleflex.
