    • Strava has rolled out new workout profiles in its latest mobile update
    • The new activities include padel, basketball, volleyball cricket and dance
    • They’re being rolled out to users globally, and Strava has teased that there’s more on the way

As far as the best fitness apps go, Strava remains one of the most popular fitness subscription services out there, having the edge over the likes of Fitbit Premium and Garmin Connect as it’s tracker-agnostic. Now it’s adding even more workouts to its roster of activities.

If you’ve updated your Strava app, you’ll now find the five new workouts are dance, basketball, volleyball, cricket, and, padel (i.e., the world’s fastest-growing sport). This increases Strava’s plethora of workout options to over 50 and, according to the platform, its new additions were some of the most in-demand activities from users, and now they’re finally being rolled out to its 180 million+ users.

Although it’s a relatively small upgrade, the addition of these new workouts lifts a huge restriction that kept users from accurately logging these types of activities before. Despite Strava’s diverse range of activities, users who frequently participate in the activities listed above would have to use the generic ‘Workout’ option to log their activity sessions (providing they were logging natively in Strava), resulting in inaccurate tracking metrics.

With the designated padel, basketball, volleyball, cricket, and dance tracking options, it makes room for more sports lovers to enjoy activities that are less common than the likes of running or cycling, which Strava initially built its brand on. But the biggest win is that users can now track these specific activities without second-guessing the accuracy of the results, which Strava highlighted in its announcement:

“Rather than having to record these sports as a “Workout”, enthusiasts of these five newly-added activities can now specifically select their favorite in the sport picker menu before recording in Strava.”

Though its five new workout profiles are new to the Strava experience, other fitness tracking apps jumped on this bandwagon a while back. The Apple Watch’s standard Workout app has supported tracking profiles for dance, volleyball, cricket, and basketball for quite some time, though it has yet to roll out a padel option.

Aside from its new exercise options, Strava has given its mobile app experience quite the glow-up recently. Its new Premium tier feature Instant Workouts takes your recent activity logs into account to generate personalized recommendations across 40+ different sports activities. Strava has also rolled out a WorkOutdoors-style feature for Apple Watch users, allowing you to view and follow a pre-generated route map.

However, Strava has a lot more going on behind the scenes, and as well as its slew of new workouts the company has teased that more activity types are on the way for users this year, likely part of improvements ahead of its long-rumored IPO. We’ve reached out to Strava for a comment, and will update this story when we know more.
