    Name: Mike Carlin

New role: President of digital, robotics and enabling technologies, Stryker

Previous role: President of customer solutions, Stryker

Stryker has appointed Mike Carlin to lead its digital and robotics business.

Spencer Stiles, Stryker’s group president of orthopaedics, announced Carlin’s new role Wednesday in a LinkedIn post. Robert Cohen, the former leader of digital and robotics, will become vice president of innovation and technology for orthopaedics.

“I am thrilled to build upon the strong foundation laid by Robert Cohen,” Carlin wrote on LinkedIn.

Robotics represents a growing business for Stryker. In March, the company launched its Mako 4 surgical robot, which can be used for total hip, total knee, partial knee and spine procedures. Adoption of robotic-assisted surgery contributed to “healthy” procedure volumes in the first quarter, Jason Beach, vice president of investor relations, said in a May earnings call.

Carlin has worked at Stryker since 2002, starting with the company’s craniomaxillofacial business, according to his LinkedIn. He also worked in trauma & extremities and surgical before leading Stryker’s customer solutions team.

Cohen, who joined Stryker after its acquisition of robotics company Mako in 2013, had led the digital, robotics and enabling technologies business since 2020, according to his LinkedIn.

“The time is right in my career journey to make the decision to move into a new role,” Cohen wrote on LinkedIn. “Work and life balance now matters more.”

Cohen will continue to work on innovation, musculoskeletal strategy and AI in his new role.
