- Coros has announced the Apex 4 smartwatch
- The device comes with a range of features made for mountain sports
- It’s available in two sizes and starts at $429
Coros has just launched the Apex 4, a smartwatch it says is “purpose-built for mountain sports.” The device comes with a range of new features, including a new design, improved GPS algorithms, longer battery life, and more. Coros has also added an upgraded processor and satellite chipset, bringing improved performance that might help it compete with some of the best running watches on the market.
Writing in a press release, Coros said the new wearable “delivers incredible battery life, precision GPS, and a lightning-fast mapping experience, all in a lightweight, premium, and durable build.”
Starting with the design, this encompasses grade 5 titanium with sapphire glass and a Memory-In-Pixel (MIP) display. The battery now lasts up to 65 hours with the All-Systems GPS (46mm) model or up to 41 hours in the 42mm version, giving you plenty of juice when you’re running or hiking out on the trail.
On the software side, Coros’s GPS algorithms have been updated to give you more accurate route-planning during workouts. Map details – such as street names and topographic aspects – now render much faster, and there are dedicated modes for “trail running, climbing, and ski touring, plus advanced training, sleep, recovery, and readiness insights”.
Built for mountain sports
The Apex is one of Coros’s top-end sports wearables, and past entries have earned praise and strong reviews from TechRadar. With the Apex 4, Coros is hoping that it can continue that trend.
The company says the Apex 4 is designed specifically for mountain sports, including trail running, climbing and ski touring. That means several of its features are geared towards these activities, including 3D terrain views, fall detection, live weather data, and more.
Coros has launched the Apex 4 in two sizes: a 46mm model and a 42mm version. The former starts at $479, while the latter costs $429. They’re both available now from Coros’s website and third-party retailers.
