Perplexity and b.well Connected Health Parnter for AI-Powered Medical Records Search

    What You Should Know

    • The Partnership: AI search engine Perplexity has partnered with b.well Connected Health to allow consumers to securely link their complete medical records directly into their AI search experience.
    • The Data Network: b.well operates one of the largest connected health data networks in the U.S., enabling secure access across more than 2.4 million providers and 350+ health plans and labs.
    • The Clinical Upgrade: Instead of relying on generic internet scraping to answer health questions, Perplexity’s AI responses will now be grounded in a user’s actual medical history. Users can ask the AI to explain their specific lab results, check medication interactions, or help them prepare for an upcoming doctor’s appointment.
    • The Privacy Protocol: The integration is strictly opt-in and consumer-mediated. Users must explicitly authorize Perplexity to access their health records and maintain the power to revoke those permissions at any time.

Why Perplexity Just Partnered with b.well to Access Medical Records

Perplexity has announced a major partnership with b.well Connected Health that effectively bridges the gap between the world’s knowledge and your personal clinical reality. Leveraging b.well’s massive interoperability network, Perplexity users can now authorize the AI to securely access their actual electronic health records. This transforms the AI from a generalized encyclopedia into a highly personalized, context-aware health assistant.

Solving the “Context Problem” in Healthcare AI

When it comes to artificial intelligence in healthcare, context is the difference between a helpful insight and a dangerous hallucination.

If a patient asks an AI, “Why am I so tired?”, a standard model will list everything from poor sleep to severe chronic illness. But if that same AI has access to a patient’s recent lab results showing low iron levels, and a medication list that includes a new antihistamine, the answer becomes infinitely more valuable and actionable.

This is where b.well’s infrastructure is critical. The platform uses a FHIR-based network to unify data across 2.4 million providers and over 350 health plans. Through its proprietary 13-step “Data Refinery,” it cleans and standardizes fragmented clinical data so that Perplexity’s engine can actually read and reason over it safely.

With this integration, Perplexity users can now:

    • Securely connect their longitudinal medical records.
    • Ask questions and get results grounded strictly in their own health history.
    • Translate complex lab results and clinical notes into plain language.
    • Prepare informed, specific questions for upcoming doctor appointments.

“b.well stands out for the scale and quality of its connected health data network, which makes them a natural partner for bringing more trustworthy AI into healthcare,” said  Dmitry Shevelenko, Chief Business Officer of Perplexity. “Healthcare is one of the most important areas where accurate context matters. By partnering with b.well, we can ensure AI responses are informed by trusted health data while maintaining strong privacy protections.”
