The medtech industry started the year with some notable leadership changes. Management shifts are happening as companies seek new sources of investment and reshape their product portfolios to pursue higher growth.

After more than 12 years at the helm of Hologic, CEO Stephen MacMillan retired in April when the women’s health company went private in an $18.3 billion transaction. Former Baxter CEO José Almeida will now take the company forward.

Teleflex tapped Jason Weidman, a longtime Medtronic executive, to lead its next chapter as it divests three businesses. Elsewhere, STAAR Surgical appointed a pair of interim CEOs after shareholders in January rejected a $1.6 billion buyout offer from Alcon, prompting former Chief Executive Stephen Farrell’s departure. A search is underway for a permanent CEO.

In diagnostics, Grail CEO Bob Ragusa is retiring after a clinical trial of the company’s multi-cancer early detection test missed its primary endpoint.
