9amHealth Raises M to Expand Virtual Specialty Care for Chronic Conditions

    What You Should Know

    • 9amHealth has secured $26M in Series B funding led by Define Ventures, bringing new participation from SemperVirens, Catalio Capital Management, and NewHealth Ventures.
    • The platform has demonstrated over $50 million in projected medical and pharmacy savings across two Fortune 100 employers.
    • The expansion targets chronic conditions that account for up to 70% of employer pharmacy spend, moving beyond its initial focus on cardiometabolic care.
    • The company’s integrated model combines specialized clinical protocols, at-home labs, and medication management with AI-enabled workflows.
    • Lynne O’Keefe, Founder and Managing Partner at Define Ventures, will join 9amHealth’s Board of Directors as part of the investment.

Managing high-cost chronic conditions has become the primary financial challenge for modern enterprise employers, with specialty medications and complex care needs driving the fastest-growing portion of healthcare spend. 9amHealth is addressing this “Spend Bottleneck” by expanding its AI-driven virtual specialty care platform. Originally focused on obesity, diabetes, and hypertension, the company is leveraging its existing clinical infrastructure to tackle a much broader set of high-cost chronic needs that collectively represent the majority of employer pharmacy costs.

Frank Westermann, CEO and Co-Founder of 9amHealth, noted that the company’s ability to combine specialized care with AI-enabled workflows allows them to scale efficiently across complex conditions.

The expansion is built on a proven foundation of managing cardiometabolic health, particularly amid the rising demand for GLP-1 therapies.

    • Proven Cost Savings: 9amHealth has already delivered significant pharmacy savings for large enterprise employers and pharmaceutical organizations.
    • Integrated Care Model: Members receive 24/7 access to endocrinologists, obesity medicine specialists, and clinical pharmacists.
    • Scalable Infrastructure: The new funding supports the growth of a technology platform designed to manage repeat interventions and coordinated care at scale.
    • Member Engagement: The platform combines at-home lab testing and lifestyle support to improve long-term clinical outcomes.

    Addressing the 70% Spend Challenge

Employer healthcare spend is increasingly concentrated in a small percentage of the population living with complex, specialty-level conditions. 9amHealth targets this “Information Asymmetry” by providing employers, health plans, and pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) with a unified layer of clinical intelligence and delivery. By standardizing care for these high-cost populations, the platform helps organizations transform how they manage their most expensive members.
