Abbott plans to roll out Lingo integrations with the Google Health app later this year. Abbott’s over-the-counter glucose sensor, which debuted in the U.S. in 2024, provides readings for adults not taking insulin to help them understand how factors such as diet and exercise affect blood sugar levels.
Google’s Health app is built on its 2021 acquisition of Fitbit for $2.1 billion.
Abbott and Google said their partnership is intended to help people take more informed actions to slow the progression of metabolic health conditions.
Abbott will connect its glucose insights into Google Health to help people understand their body’s response to daily habits. For people who have a Google Health premium subscription, Google’s AI-powered health coach will use this data to provide recommendations to help people build healthier habits.
The companies said they plan to conduct a large, real-world metabolic health study integrating continuous glucose, wearable, laboratory and survey data to understand the connections between activity, sleep, well-being and metabolic health. The results could inform more personalized guidance and help the companies improve their products.
The collaboration comes as other diabetes tech firms are testing digital health partnerships and the use of AI. Competitor Dexcom is participating in a Food and Drug Administration pilot program where it will test an AI-enabled glucose health program to help people improve glycemic control and lower blood sugar levels.
