    • Market Expansion: Australian healthtech firm Heidi has officially landed in Hong Kong. Meanwhile, it is capitalizing on its $65 million Series B backing to scale ambient AI scribing across local clinics.
    • Research Funding: The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) secured roughly $6 million (HK$46.3 million) in government grants. Furthermore, this funding will fuel AI-driven breakthroughs in sarcopenia drug discovery and advance care planning.
    • Cross-Border Collaboration: South Korea’s Coreline Soft has partnered with UK-based Optellum. Consequently, they will fuse lung nodule detection with advanced diagnostic management on the LungOS platform.

The adoption of healthcare artificial intelligence in Asia continues to accelerate rapidly. Specifically, this growth is driven by strategic enterprise expansion, major public research investments, and cross-border technological partnerships. Therefore, recent developments highlight a maturing ecosystem. Ultimately, this ecosystem focuses squarely on workflow automation, solutions for an aging population, and precision thoracic care. Furthermore, advancements in healthcare artificial intelligence in Asia are reshaping clinical delivery models for millions of patients.

Heidi Health Establishes Hong Kong Footprint Following Series B Push

Australian medical artificial intelligence company Heidi has officially entered the Hong Kong market. Additionally, it has established a local corporate office alongside a high-profile research partnership with the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). Thus, the collaboration will focus heavily on investigating and refining AI-powered clinical documentation.

    • Traction on the Ground: Heidi’s ambient AI scribe technology has already facilitated nearly 20,000 consultations across the region. Moreover, it is deployed across practices including PHYX Physio and the Hong Kong Foot Clinic.
    • Strategic Growth: This expansion comes on the heels of the company’s robust $65 million Series B funding round. Consequently, Heidi intends to aggressively scale local R&D, sales channels, clinical partnerships, and implementation support to alleviate administrative burdens for regional practitioners.

CUHK Secures HK$46.3M ($5.9M) for Aging-Focused Healthcare AI

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) has been awarded approximately HK$46.3 million ($5.9 million) by the Research Grants Council under the Strategic Topics Grant 2026/27. Consequently, the funding targets two major interdisciplinary initiatives designed to counter healthcare strains associated with an aging population:

    • Combating Sarcopenia ($3.18M / HK$24.9M): Led by Professor Wang Huating of the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, this multidisciplinary team is leveraging AI engineering and biomedicine. Specifically, they aim to decode muscle aging mechanisms, build an AI-driven drug discovery system, and propel anti-sarcopenia therapies through pre-clinical and clinical testing.
    • Smart Advance Care Planning ($2.7M / HK$21.4M): Headed by Professor Helen Chan Yue-lai of the Nethersole School of Nursing, this project is constructing Hong Kong’s first AI-enabled end-of-life care platform. Furthermore, the platform integrates AI-guided decision support, automated documentation, and communication training for healthcare workers. Finally, it is slated for pilots across 24 residential care homes and community units via a randomized controlled trial.

Coreline Soft and Optellum Partner on Unified Lung AI Diagnostics

South Korean medical AI innovator Coreline Soft has announced a strategic partnership with Oxford-headquartered Optellum.

The collaboration centers on integrating Coreline Soft’s chest CT-based computer-aided lung nodule detection capabilities directly with Optellum’s diagnostic risk stratification and care management systems on the LungOS platform. By combining precise nodule identification with automated prioritization and tracking workflows, the partnership aims to streamline early lung cancer diagnosis and patient monitoring pathways globally.
