    What You Should Know:

    – Johnson & Johnson MedTech has launched the Polyphonic™ AI Fund for Surgery, a new initiative that aims to discover and develop AI solutions that address challenges across the entire surgical journey—before, during, and after procedures.

    – The fund will actively seek and finance promising proposals focused on AI model development, data engineering, and responsible AI governance, accelerating the path from concept to clinical application. This effort builds directly on Johnson & Johnson MedTech’s existing work to create a more connected and data-driven surgical environment.

    Addressing an Urgent Need

The push for greater AI integration is backed by overwhelming support from healthcare professionals. A survey conducted by Johnson & Johnson MedTech this year found that nearly 95% of respondents advocate for more AI in their daily healthcare practices. Surgeons and researchers recognize the immense potential but often face significant barriers in bringing their innovations to patients.

Polyphonic™ AI Fund for Surgery: An Open Call for Innovation

To kickstart the initiative, the fund will leverage Johnson & Johnson’s well-established QuickFire Challenge program. This global platform will solicit submissions from a wide range of innovators, including academic institutions, researchers, startups, and established companies. Selected awardees will receive grant funding and, crucially, gain access to the immense resources and expertise of the coalition.

This includes mentorship and developer workshops featuring technologies from Johnson & Johnson MedTech, NVIDIA’s world-class AI infrastructure, and AWS’s leading cloud services, creating a fertile ecosystem for surgical AI development.

The Polyphonic AI Fund for Surgery is the next logical step in a collaboration that began last year between Johnson & Johnson MedTech and NVIDIA. That initial partnership established the Polyphonic Digital Ecosystem, a platform designed to securely analyze surgical data in real-time.

The new fund deepens this alliance, aiming to solve key hurdles in surgical AI, such as ensuring data privacy, accelerating surgical learning, automating the enrichment of surgical data, and improving R&D efficiency. Johnson & Johnson MedTech is focused on creating high-quality, AI-annotated data sets and a governance framework to facilitate collaborative and responsible AI development. This effort is powered by NVIDIA’s purpose-built platforms, including the NVIDIA IGX edge computing platform and NVIDIA Holoscan, which are designed to speed the creation and deployment of AI applications in a secure, scalable manner.

    Availability

The Polyphonic ecosystem is currently available in early access to select hospitals, with this new fund poised to expand its impact by fueling the next wave of AI-powered surgical solutions.
